Hello everybody,
I am thinking of having the following stock in my aquarium setup.
1 Aro, 1 spotted gar, 2 pBass, 2 Black ghost knife.
Is this a feasible combination?
I am thinking a 220 g tank size for this stock. Is it possible to put this stock together when everybody is about 5" in size?

Please advice.

The arowana really shouldn't be with anything until around 8-10 inches... The peacock bass may scare the gar a little during feeding... other then that your fine. I have roughly the same stock in a 180 and they are perfectly fine.

It's a bad idea for a long-term arrangement, and the arowana will get too large for that aquarium (but I imagine that you'll have that part covered at that point).

As arowanaryan said, the arowana should be by itself until it gets a little bit bigger. I wouldn't have the gar in there; gars don't mix well with arowana or peacock bass. Take a journey over to the Gars & Bowfins sub-forum and look for the one thread on it; remember that just because someone did it on YouTube that it will work for you (it usually doesn't work). The BGKs might not work out long-term if they don't grow fast enough; they might get eaten by the arowana. The peacock bass will do well with the arowana, so I'd say that having them in there with it shouldn't be a problem as long as everyone gets their chance to eat.

yeah I may have given some bad advice.... my gars and others get along because of the copious amounts of food they get... I also watch them daily for 2 and a half hours plus to watch for any signs of aggression. My spotted Gar is much more sensitive to stuff then my florida gar. The one day I couldn't go out for more food my arowana was bitten by my florida gar on the tail. This may not be solely because of food but it is all I can think of... OH and a gar that small shouldn't really be in a 220. It will give the gar enough room to build up to a speed at which it can break its back if its spooked.. And being that it may share the tank with pbass who feed very aggressively theres a good chance of spooking. Gars are awesome fish but can be tough to predict... Personally since I think this is your first gar I'd go with a Florida or a short nose Spotteds are sometimes very toughy when something in the tank is changed whether it be temp or water quality food amount ect.

Good point about the gar's back; I overlooked that. Also, I'd go with a Florida gar if you want a gar but are going to keep it with the proper tankmates e.g. none of the ones that were listed; shortnose gars actually are a poor choice for a first gar because they spook super easy and are known for breaking their backs as a a result.

So, to the OP, I'd just do the arowana and the peacock bass since the BGKs could be hit or miss (depends on size) and the gar is a definite "no"; you might also be able to add in a South American lungfish, too.

Hmm.. I didn't know that about short nose gars.... I think the sticky says its a good beginner gar so that weird lol

Which sticky was it? There's a ton of stickies in the "Gars & Bowfins" sub-forum, so I'd like to check out the one in question so that we can get it fixed.
