So I have been looking around a bit but am not really finding much on how everyone builds or secures there tank lids to prevent aro escapes and possible death. Anyone have any good ideas you can share? Pictures of your lids/canopies for examples would be awesome too! I have a small 5" silver aro now and just don't want to ever come home or wake up to a fish that escaped. Thanks!

Weight your lids down and seal up every hole, no matter how small it appears. Arowanan have no problem pushing through conventional aquarium tops. Many people underestimate the power these fish have even when small, IMO overkill is best.

The most important thing is to always have the tank covered. This includes during water change or feeding. Just open up a small corner for u to get the job done ...cause these fishes can really jump at anytime. U may be thinking just s few seconds to siphon the poop or something but that's exactly the most dangerous time. They know something is different in the tank and any thing u do could spook them to jump.

I have a couple of dumbbell weights on my cover. With my lights... Approximately 7kg of weight.

And ill share a tip... From my observation they are more bound to jump when the lid the cover is transparent in color. Cause to them they would think its open space and free to jump. So they will keep trying for it. But with colored... Especially black cover they know its covered and no where to jump so they don't try for it. It's the same logic as they would brush their head around in a transparent tank withbno backdrop. But if u have the sides or back covered up they know its a wall and will turn when they are nearing it.

Hope this helps.
