Hey!

I am thinking of getting a Yellow Tailed Arowana. Now I am thinking which fish to put it with. I love Oscars but it may kill the Arowana. You guys have any experience keeping Oscars and Arowanas together? If so, give me some tips like leave the Arowana to grow first etc. And if your Arowana was killed by your Oscar, how did it do it? Thanks.

I was also thinking of getting two gold severums and a gar(not sure what kind yet so tips please!) to put with my Arowana, is that ok? If no, why? Thanks

Lastly, how can an Arowana eat feeder shrimps? The shrimps sink to the bottom so how can the arowana eat it? Thanks too.

your arowana can be kept with oscar but aro should be 2x the oscar and it probably got stressed out too die and gars i wouldnt suggest it and go to gar section too know why and yes your aro can eat from bottom if hungry

i have a gar and arowana with 2 oscars. it's all about the size of each fish and when you introduce them. my son surprised me by purchasing 2 small oscars as father's day gifts. so, these 2 fellas were forced on me. I had a silver arowana (6-7 inches)that I had previously purchased. the arowana had been in my tank for several weeks before the 2 oscars were introduced. the oscars were never able to establish a sense of territory or ownership within the tank. they were introduced to the arowana's tank. after introducing the oscars, they were curious about their long, silvery tankmate, but never showed any signs of aggression towards him. the arowana was too big for them to eat, so they respected his space. they have been together for over 6 months and get along fine. I feel that if the oscars were even slightly bigger than the arowana, they would bully him, if not eat him, of course. i also feel that my introducing the arowana to the tank before introducing the oscars, prevented the oscars from being dominant. I also introduced my 7-8 inch florida gar to my tank about 3 weeks ago. no problems. it's as if my oscars have become conditioned to having long, slender, slightly-larger tankmates. I think it's also a question of temperment. One oscar might be a bully but another might not. one more thing, my gar and arowana are two of a kind. they tend to do their own thing and are not as social. it has made for a very good community. what might not work for one aquarist, might work for another. i don't think i'm capable of thinking like a fish, but i do think that it's sometimes just a matter of a little common sense.
