Guys am getting a small baby Pearl aro this week. wanted to get some ideas for setups. I have kept a silver aro before but couldn't keep anything with it. I have seen a few setups of pearl aros with other fish but wanted to know what all fish can i keep with this guy eg. bottom dwellers etc
He is around 3 inches and is still small.
Any suggestions. or any earlier posts for aro tank setups and other fish compablity ...

Your pearl arowana is a jardini. Although there are many posts with these fish being with other fish, odds are that when it reaches the 10" mark it'will start killing off it's tankmates

As for tanksize, the jardini will need at least a 6'x2'x2' 180g tank. With proper care it could get to be 30" long so that being the case the 180g would be cramped.

i have kept silver arowana before after he became around a foot i had to exchange him and get a flowerhorn. Everyone at home miss the arowana so am planing to get a arowana again. I have a 3ft x 1 & 1/2 x 1 & 1/2 tank got a good canister, lights gravel too. Just want to make a good looking setup. What fish can i keep with this guy to start off with.. later if any fights can shift it to a different tank.

I have plans for
2 Yoyo Loach
2 clown loach
1 sucker

any other suggestions for tank mates.

and what kind of ambiance can be created for a small arowana does any one have pics of arowana setups...

i kept my 8" jardini with various tank mates, but it was a very aggressive fish. It was ok in my 150 when i first threw it in there with a black aro, silver aro, 9" st, multiple other dats, 4 jumbo clown loaches, ck, and sun cat. The only ones it would bother was the other aros. Watch those clown loaches though because they do have those eye splines that could hurt that jardini if it eats one of them...

Should be ok as a juvi, but just be prepared to switch some fish out due to aggression.

Are you planning on upgrading to at least a 180g tank? What you have now is way too small...

yeah i have plans to upgrade to a 4 ft tank. in a few months. BTW i don't think a 3ft tank will be small for a 3 inch arowana.

My silver aro (6.5inch) killed two plecos in a 30G tank. And both pleco's were about 3 inches i guess. So if you want to put a Pleco as a tankmate for your aro, make sure he's a common pleco and he's much bigger than the aro's mouth.

Miami dolphin fan? :)

You say you had a silver but you had to get rid of it because it outgrew the tank. Good move. But you say the family missed the arowana so you want another one.....which will outgrow your tank and you'll have to get rid of it again. You are going round in circles. Why dont you grow out the little guy in your 3ft tank for a few months and in the mean time get a big tank to house it for life. You'll need bigger than a 180 too, especially if you're going to put other fish in with it.
