Arowana with channel catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
arowana is a tropical fish while channel cat is cold water fish! they don't really mix that well

It can be done, but it will require a relatively large tank. Channels do fine in tropical environments, but higher temperature = higher metabolism = more waste.

And also, you will need to be careful about what sizes they are when you put them together; the aro will need to be at least 10" long, and large enough to not fit in the channel's mouth, but the channel will also need to be large enough to not be seen as a meal by the aro.

dont do it. Channal cats are active predators at night and arowanas by day. a channal catfish is coldwater and an arowana tropical. I mixed tropical fish with temperate fish and it never works. arowanas are slow and would have tough compitition with a fast moving stealthy channal cat.

You have never seen an adult aro at feeding time, have you? lol :grinno: The hard part is keeping it in the tank.

I'm pretty sure a fish that can compete with a giant snakehead should be able to handle a channel cat...

arowana isn't slow, they can be very fast!

i was watching a youtube video of an arowana feeding with a snake head and the snake head was hogging the food cuz the poor arowana wasnt fast enough. anyways aint a good idea.

you have a 150 gallon tank...the aro want fit in that for life let alone the channel cat..those fishes you talk about are monsters ..please do a little research

Well, if another example is needed: my aro spent the majority of its life in a tank with a pacu, which got to about 23" long and was quite aggressive, but although they were both fed the same food, it never had any problem competing. And then there are also many people on here who keep them with pbass and have no issues whatsoever, so why would a channel cat be any different (especially considering that they are relatively inactive bottom dwellers)?
