hey guys..i just set up a new 40G tank..with a juvi aro and 4 afro cichlids..looks like my dogtooth cichlid is beating up the aro..what can i do to calm em down and maybe treat the bite on the aro??

i'd remove the aro for 2 reasons:

the africans will probably kill the aro

and a 40g is waaaaay too small for an aro

I agree completely.

well the aro is about 4 1/2 " and the cichlids about 3-4"..its kinda of a tank to raise em til its big enough to into a 100g tank where i have a gar and and tsn

well, the problem with this is that if you keep the aro in there with the aggressive africans, I don't think you'll even have an aro to raise up for the 100g...

not africans. Anyways, what kind of aro is it? If it's anything other than an african aro then you're mixing fish from opposite ends of the world. I mean, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but just case you weren't aware.

yea i would say u need atleast a 180 to house an aro. and many african cichlids are naturally very aggressive. the only way you could lower the aggression would be to go for a much bigger tank

Welcome to MFK, some things you should know about a silver arowana.

They should be raised solitary until about 5 to 6" long and then with only very select non aggressive tank mates up to about 10".

When kept with cichlids the arowanas length should be twice that of cichlid.

Arowana and gar are not recommend as tank mates.

They grow very quickly 1 to 1.5" per month and will be 24" long within 18 months. This means that if the aro survives it will outgrow the 40g in 4~6 months. A year from now you will not have a tank that is proper size for keeping an arowana.
