Just recently my 11inch arowana started spending a lot of time at the bottom of the tank. His fins are not clamped, he is eating and otherwise seems normal. The tank is a 55gal with no tankmates and water parameters are fine. Is this normal?

General Bill, a 55 is too small for a 11 inch arowana. Try to get the biggest tank you can afford for your monster asap. That guy will find the quarters too cramp and might jump out.

Try to test you water params and post it here. You could also put plants on top and on the substrate to make it feel more secure. Let us know what happens..

Hi Wesley,

When I first purchased the aro at 8inches I had the tank heavily planted with a piece of driftwood. I just removed the plants and driftwood to create more space and it seems to be working for now. The fish is off the bottom of the tank and cruising the tank like a normal aro. I will be able to upgrade to a larger tank in about 3 weeks, hopefully a 90-100gal as space permits. Thanks for the advice.

No problem. If you can, just buy the largest tank you can buy or get ready to give up the aro in a few months. They grow real fast as youve noticed and at 11 theyre not even half their mature size.
