Anyone ever heard of someone hand feeding (or otherwise) a South American Arowana and getting seriously injured by the fishs bite? I have to say, it IS possible that when I used too (all the time) hand feed my 22+ inch arows, that they WERE being carefull, and I just assumed they werent. Perhaps they were capable of ripping the bumper off of a 1972 Buick LeSaber and I just didn't know. Makes me feel a little naive. Though, I'd still be surprised if a 20+ inch arowana could really do damage to your hand if it wanted too (like say make you need stitchs). I'm just not sure of that. Anyone heard of this happening.

I could see it if it thrashed, but mine have never thrashed my hands. I have been bit numerous times, and the only time I have gotten hurt was the first time. Scared me half to death, I was reaching into the tank to grab a plant and one bit me. I pulled back so fast, and hit the lid really hard. Never heard of anyone getting thrashed by any aro though.

There mouths are definitely not for ripping, however they could lacerate your hand pretty bad with their teeth. Their jaws are lined with sharp teeth. The throat is what you need to worry about with aros.

I am sure if an Arowana was in danger and got cornered and selfpreservation instincts kicked in, all it would have to do is bury those needle like teeth in your flesh and turn on that motorized tail...everybody knows how strong the body is... Although it's not likely I'm sure at least it could bleed you quite well...

My old Aro was so gentle when i fed him real nice fish he was. prob just scratch ya up a bit i reckon. now a snakehead, jesus, i have heard of people loses a lot of flesh off there fingers because of them. just watch a big red snakehead at it with a large feeder goldfish and imagine that on ya hand!!
