I have wanted a polypterus for quite awhile, and one is now available to me (my lfs doesnt exactly get them often) and I only have one tank in which there'd be enough room for him, however my young arowanna is currently in it. so I must ask , would I be able to mix a polypterus senegal 1.5" be mixable with an arowanna 2.5" in a 10 gal. growout?

The senegalus will be fine with an arowana for a short period of time. The arowana will outgrow the 10 gallon in a couple of months time. The senegalus will be fine in a 10 gallon for a good while as long as it is not over crowded. Arowanas get close to 3 feet long. Once they get 12 inches or so, they would eat a senegalus as a snack.

My Senegal grows pretty slow. When I had an Arowana, it grew pretty fast. The Senegal might end up being food, but in a 10g...you might need to upgrade a a few weeks.

prob be ok for a while, but the sen will probably eventually get eaten if they are kept together indefinitely

Frankly, the only tankmates which my red allow to be in her tank is endies. So far so good. If you ask me... the aro will grow much faster than the senegal even in the same tank. I dun see the harm in this combination except for the tank size.

Aro doesnt really able to grow to it potential size in tanks. Unless water changes been done daily and ample feeding.:)
