Im so sick of the noise from my sump! Seriously it sounds like there is a waterfall in the room! I have everything durso's covered sump about the only other thing i could do is put some acoustic insulation on the inside of the stand!

So Ive decided its time for a closed system!

This is my idea, its for a 220g 72x48x30. Now, the tank has two overflows with an intake and return in each.

I would like to plumb on one overflow apond filter that i found online and just stuff it full of scrubbies.

It has a inlet on the upper side with what looks like a spray bar over the media and then an outlet on the bottom. Its rated for a 2000g pond at 325gph. I would have a Turbo Sea 1090 running into it and pushing the water up. Im concerned that its not rated for the pressure it would receive from the pump..

On the other overflow I want to hook up two whirlpool whole house prefilters on a separate pump.

Each overflow would be self contained with its own inlet and outlet.

How does this look to you guys??

where is the sound from the sump comming from? is it from the inlet to the sump? the overflow? the drip tray? I have never used a pond filter myself, but have read good things about people using them.

I was able to get my sump almost silent, with a lot of tunning and not one durso, but I do have my own home made overflow silencer.

Most of the waterfall sound is from hitting the drip tray and then over the media..

I really feel like this closed system would be a step up for the tank but I need to know if that is the right way to do it!

That sounds like an extremely simple problem. Put some filter floss on the drip tray.

To fix my drip try problem I did exactly that put filter floss over the top of the drip tray. I then mad sure my bio media went almost to the top of the drip tray and also was partly submerged. This way the water is always hitting something hard and not making any noise, and by the time it hits the water its slowed down to a trickle.

Alright guys awesome tips, Ill put some filter floss on and maybe some rubber padding under the pump to dampen it a little bit.

To be completely honest I was looking for an excuse to upgrade my filtration, I really want to get some mechanical in there and thought i had a brilliant idea going.
:nilly:

I will still add the whirlpool filters, but off the sump.

For $30, you can't really lose. If it doesn't work or isn't adaptable, then you really aren't out much. Just keep your current sump in operation while you are experimenting with the other one.

Keep us posted and take lots of pics.
