So this is most likely gonna seem like a very dumb question, But how exactlly or what causes arrrows to get drop eye? Mine had it already before I got him and I was just wondering sorry for the dumb question!

It's not dumb considering that there is not a confirmed cause of it. Maybe it's just a byproduct of being in captivity. Many animals exhibit behaviours that are seen only in captivity and not in the wild. Well, who knows.

Try to keep the arowana calm & prevent it from jumping or hitting its head onto things..
My aro has drop eye as well but only on one side so I'm putting this theory to the test.. If it heals, then DE is most likely due to head trauma..

people often float things like ping pong balls on the surface of the water to keep it looking upwards. Im not 100% sure if it works or not though

I've just bought 4 silver arowana babies (5'') for my tank. I'm aware of this DE syndrom and I'd like to avoid this problem. I've read a few theories about the root cause of it, mainly :

- too fat feeding
- head traumas when jumping against top covers
- unsufficient use of the "above water" vision

I've decided to put every chances by my (their) side and I've built a tank with a big "green wall" above the tank, without ceiling (but sliding doors, like on a terrarium). I feed them with crickets, earthworms, white fish, market shrimps, spiders and black flies... I'll try Hikari Jumbo Carnisticks as soon as I'll find a way to buy them in Europe...

I hope these actions will be sufficient to prevent the DE syndrom...

Let's wait and see in a few months (years ?)...
