Arrowana gill curl

Recently made something of an unintentional novice mistake with my juevie arrow and his tank cycled with him in it hitting almost 2(or 20 I don't recall the scale) ppm of ammonia. I resolved the issue by adding seasoned filters to the tank but he has some gill curl is this from ammonia burn and will he recover? Otherwise he eats well and seems in good health.

Well so much for healthy. This morning I turn on tank lights and find that he is shredded to pieces. I can't discern a fish in the tank that would have picked on him let alone kill him so I feed he died then the bichirs and cichlids picked him apart. Still curious about what the gill curl might have meant etc. I plan to get another when I have my monster tank built.

Thanks, I had already moved him to a new tank and he was eating then he was dead. Also a delhezi bichir that was with him in the ammonia burn tank died after moving to the larger 100 gallon as well.
