Ok before anyone flies off the handle- I'm not attempting this or going to just out of pure curiosity; could an Arrow be slowly acclimatized to live in very slightly brackish conditions; like that of an adult Archer...?
Just had a thought today that an amazing setup would be of a huge tank with an arrow and archer/ multiples if possible- and have like branches overhanging with a small island and just every now and then release a box of crickets on the island so the fish get a good feed; I'm pretty sure Arrows jump for food in the wild; can this trate, like the archer, be reintroduced in the tank?

Just thought it would be a killer setup and then have maybe a few larger (so as not to become arrow food themselves) monos or scats to mop up the remains and generally be cleaners...

Just curious- if arrow cannot tolerate brackish could always be done with freshy- but you know... well that might be a better option... :WHOA:

I shall await your opinions... ... might post this in the Brackish too...

I wouldnt think so... that would be a cool tank though.

It might be possible given a lot of patience & huge amount of time slowly acclimatizing it. Perhaps it would be better trying to get the Archers used to fresh water instead although they would not last as long in fresh water. I have seen some unlikely species surviving very well in salt water though such as bettas & guppies. :)

hmm... interesting- Well I wouldn't want to subject an arrow to salt if no one's sure if they will like it or not... so will probs wait for some definite assurance- thanks for all the help so far

We do have hobbyist that dose aro tanks with 0.5% to 0.7% salt with each water change without having any problems. Some salt is good since besides giving some resistance to sickness also promotes osmosis as well. Of course at that dosage, it is no where near a salt water setup. :)

Of course. a percentage of salt as you mention is no problem, but nowhere near the brackish salt levels, which are around 1012 degrees.

Also, salt in the water hardens the water and increases the Ph to unnaceptable aro suitability. ( I know that there are guys who keep aros in malawi/tanganyka conditions :( )

You can do your imagined set up with amazon conditions and amazon fish....why not?

there are plenty of people who have datnoids and aros together. datnoids are brackish. i treat my tank with plenty of salt and my aros do fine.

Well, archers go from fresh to brackish to full marine as they grow older.....would be kinda awesome to have some archers and moray eels though;)

Cute little guys......I had a dragon goby, a green spotted puffer, bumble bee goby's snowflake eel and archers in the same tank....brackish style
