asain arowany why banned in australia

ive always wanted an asain arowana the australian ones just dont look as cool so is there any real good reason why they are not in australia

Because some bureaucrat in Canberra heard they were endangered in the wild, and didn't bother to look a little further and see that all arowana for trade these days comes from approved capitive breeding farms.

They are no longer for sale at any lfs, but if you ask around you will find them. They used to be very expensive. Now they are very very very expensive.

Trade of Asian Arowana in Australia is banned. Ownership is a grey area.

They've banned them because Australia also has breeds of Arowana (jardini & leichardti) and the nut jobs think that fish keepers will release their asian aros into the wild which 'might' endanger the local breeds.

This is a really stupid law and one that gets me mad everytime i think about it.

If an Asian bred with an Australian Aro it would only make the Australian more appealing.....
