I am flying home from ny on Friday morning and was planning on buying fish and packaging them in a box and checking the box like luggage. Is this possible? Has anyone done this?

It's possible. Put the fish in bags, place in insulated box w/ heat pad, ship priority over night and have it held at the post office. Pick it up on your drive home.

Don't do it as checked luggage. They'll get tossed around like mad. You could probably do them as carry on, you'll have to check with your airline as it varies from company to company.

In the US they won't let you carry on a 20oz liquid water bottle, much less large bags of water and livestock. I agree that you should not go through with your plan of taking the fish through the airport. Baggage gets thrown around more than a football on sunday. Do overnight shipping, one of those full Styrofoam boxes inside a cardboard box, with heat pads.

I am not looking to carry them on. I wanted to check them. I understand that there may be risk, but does anyone know if you can check boxes of fish

Carry on? what's the liquid restriction for carry on in your country?

sounds pretty risky. people check dogs and cats though. you would probably have to pay an extra fee for the handling of your box of fish. just inquire with the airline about taking pets. i wouldnt put bags of fish in your suitcase and expect them to survive though.

So i spoke to Delta. They said as long as it’s a sealed box I am good to go! Still a little nervous but fingers crossed. How many heat packs would you put in a box of it is 20-30 degrees out? Probably outside and in the air for 7-9 houra
