Hey guys,

so I'd love to hear from some very experienced guys (with Asian Arowanas) on how much to feed them daily.

Lets say you really want to avoid your Arowana to get too much fat and potentially get a drop eye because of that. How much do you need to feed him to still grow well, be healthy but not get too fat?

Lets try it with superworms. If you'd feed your Arowana mainly superworms, pellets and sometimes small pieces of smelt (fish) and shrimp...

- 1 superworm per day? 2?
- 1 superworm + some pellets?
- some pellets + 1 1¨ shrimp on day 1 and 2 superworms on day 2?
- just everyday until his belly is full and he refuses to eat more?

There is nothing prescribed here I believe. Just go with your Aros reaction to food. Different Aro will react differently to food some are voracious eaters and some are very picky. Also depends on Aro size/age the feeding differs. Also if there are other tank mates, competition kicks in.

I assume you are referring to your BBXB, 7 inch. At this age, he must be fed daily. Try different options, like prawns/shrimp, worms, etc. If you dont know exactly how much to feed, try offering feed one piece at a time and stop when you see his interest towards food is coming down. With more time, you will eventually get to know exactly how your your particular aro will eat.

In my case, these days I know exactly how much my Aro is going to eat by seeing his interest towards me when I go for feeding. I offer pieces one by one and see gradually his interest will come down. He usually eat 2/3 medium size prawns. 3-4 Super worms (once in a while), around 8-10 mealworms (once in a while). In a day I dont mix different type, like when I give prawns, I dont give worms. I also insert the Hikari pellets inside prawns frequently. My Aro is almost a 2 footer BTW. But still I have days when he wont touch the last pieces of food, or sometimes I see food being spit out in the tank after a few hours.

for mine... about 1ft

his fav: 20+/- live baby frogs - about 1cm-2cm size
or
frozen market prawn: about 10 cut up pieces equates to about 1 half medium prawn
or
now trying freeze dried krill, he ate a few unwillingly

i stop feeding the moment i see him spit food out regardless if he takes the food back in

If DE is your main concern, then there is nothing much you can do. I believe DE is a genetic. Nothing to do with the food.

Back on your feeding questions, i feed my aros once in 2 days. One is a 35cm red and the other is a 40cm red. When they were younger i fed once a day. How much? Around 70% of their max capacity

E.g 10 frogs is the limit of my 40cm red aro per meal. So i just give him 6-7. Never go too full
