I am looking at tank mates for my new asian aro.
it doesnt seem to be overtly aggresive.
its currently in there with a fire eel and a featherfin synodontis.

I am thinking of adding a 7 to 8 inch 6 bar distichodus.
now, the featherfin can go as far as im concerned, its a filler fish really, im not keen on it i just have it there.

Sometimes my asian aro will eye up the fire eel and the featherfin when it tries to steal its food or swim around, but never has the aro attacked it.
but then again i cant watch it 24/7, suffice to say there are no wounds or scratches or any damage on the other fish.

What is the temprament of a 6bar distichodus? do you think the aro will kill it? or visa versa?

Those Distichodus can be pests.

I would not put the Dist in with the aro to much of a risk. I once had a Dist about 6" with some red devils around the same size ended up with all dead red devils. it found it's way into the mouth of my 22" jardini.

Ive got a 16" inch disto in with a similar size RTG and similar sized FF. The arowana is by far the most dominant (lived most of its life alone so not used to tankmates) and keeps the others in line. The disto is a fairly new arrival though so we'll see how it goes.

I;ve heard from others they are hit or miss... fin nippers and pigs

depends on which distichodus, lussoso or sexfasciatus. lussoso are more aggressive. sexfasciatus grow quite big tho
