why are asian aro's still illegal here in the US if they are breed in captivity? it would seem to me that the wild asian aro population is not being depleted by poachers since the availability of captive breed aro's are so available. discuss....

most captive aros are as good as dead as far as reproduction goes, most people have trouble keeping one single arowana, if you don't have a bunch they will kill each other, and if you have a bunch they will need a tank/pond big enough and then breed, therefore most captive aros are as good as dead in reproductive terms

i am not talking about trying to breed them on my own or do it here in the US. from what i have read, i have been interested in asian aro's for 20 years and owned one in the past, the breeding programs that they have in asia are doing quite well. there are a number of breeders that are goverment regulated that produce fantastic fish. why couldn't there be a exemption made on these goverment regulated fish?

:iagree:

The problem is that asian breeding facilities have agreed to provide part of their yield to replenish wild populations. No breeder has yet stepped forward to honor that agreement to date. Also, there are no funds or funded groups to provide an up-to-date count of wild populations. Until a count is done that shows the species on the rebound, the legislation will not change.
