Hey guys,

so my Asian Arowana is currently about 12-13 inches big/small. So not yet fully grown. So far he is swimming with stingrays (that are leaving the tank soon), a huge Panaque and 2/2 Geophagus Winemilleri. The Winemilleri get quite big, about ~10-12 inches big, so I guess they are fine and wont be a snack even when my Aro grows to like 20-24 inches.

BUT I'd really like to add 3/3 Geophagus Red Heads, the problem that I have is that from all good sources ppl say they get about 6,5 for females and 7-7,5 for males, which isnt really big. The breeder of the Red Heads told me his male is about 9¨ and the female about ~7,5-8¨. Considering that, do they get big enough to not end up as a "snack" or not? I know there is no 100% answer to this question, as one Arowana would maybe not eat them and another one would... but what do you guys think in general?

So far my Arowana has no problem at all with his tank mates, he only hates it when the Geophagus go up, to the top half of the tank, because that is his territority and he charges them when they go up for food or something but ignores them completely when theyre at the bottom half of the tank (and Geophagus are there anyway most of the time).

I would stick with the bigger geo's like winnamilleri.
But I personally got bored w/ geo's.
Cichla all the way ;)

Yeah I know what you mean. Cichlas are very interesting fish and I really love how Cichla, especially the Monoculus, look - but on the other side my tank isnt endless big and with 305x90x65cm I'd say it's too small for 5-6 Cichlas and an Asian Arowana too. They just all get very big and I dont like tanks that have almost more fish than space for them to swim...

Right now I have planned to sell my stingrays and my group of Myleus Schomburgkii wide bar and put in a lot of wood. I wanted to get wood to "fill" the bottom half of the tank, about half of the bottom half. Top half is for the Arowana and he doesnt allow any other fish to enter the top half :) Bottom half would then be for big Panaque, L24/L25, LDA07 and so on... thats what I am planning to go with and I'd really like to keep some fishes that wont get 40cm+ and that love to be around the bottom half, which is why I think Geophagus are perfect for that matter.

But I guess I'll better not try it with Red Heads, I really dont want them to end up as pricey food for the Arowana. Even though I guess when half of the bottom half is full with wood, he wouldnt really be able to catch them, but I'd also not really want him to try eat them half the day.

Hahaha I like that. Even though it looks like ur Arowana isnt mature yet. He/she might change... thats what I'm kind of afraid haha. Also, ur Aro seems to be a bit less aggressive than mine as it looks like he/she allows other fish to enter his "zone"? Mine doesnt. Other fishes have to stay around the bottom half. The full top half is his and only his territority.

You are right to say Aros do change their behaviour. I have seen many cases where war suddenly breaks out for no apparent reason.
