so a guy came in the store today asking if we have any asian arowanas in stock. i really dont know much about arowanas and all i know we have silvers and jardinis for sale. so what exactly are "asian" arowanas??

Asian Aros are illegal throughout the US. Scleropages Formosus would be their scientific name.

yeah seems odd he's been around since march and has never caught this....

Yes...they have different color variations from Green, Gold, Red, Crossback, etc.

if you really want a fish that bad, people have their ways on getting their hands on one..not that i got any illegal fish, i just know people who do. i really dont focus on arowanas that much, and i wasnt sure...maybe its legal now and maybe thats the reason that guys was asking...and thats why im asking it now:D

Who ever ask u about the Asians are either really misinformed or ya.. he is a US wild life agent...

I only wish the US would allowed asian arowanas..

The trade of Asian Arowanas are being regulated by CITES. So they should not be any reason for the US government to impose a blanket ban on these beauties. The concern of the wild specimens now are obsolete as the Asian Arowanas are being mass bred in farms in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. These farm bred specimens are tagged with a microchip which indicates it's parentage and origin. Wild caught specimens are stictly banned for export and if there's any it will command a PREMIUM price and I really mean PREMIUM as they are almost non-existent as development and logging has encroached into most of the area they are found.

The only other reason I can point out of the US govenment concern would be the accidental/not release of the unwanted fishes into the local riverine system that might cause distruption to the local ecosystem. But at the price tag these beauties come with, I doubt anybody in its sane mind would release them into the local water system.
