Howdy all! This is my first post to the forum but I have been reading through the threads for about the past 2-3 weeks. Slowly trying to gather up more info about just fish in general and especially more about catfish.

I currently have a 70 gallon setup with a Asian Red Tail and 2 Red Oscars. I've read through the RTC & TSN Information thread for info about possible diets and a few different sources online have stated that an Asian will pretty much eat anything inside the tank.

However, this isn't happening with the Asian that I have. I've tried Silversides, frozen beefheart, and shrimp from the local grocery store and really haven't had much luck with the Asian eating any of those. He took a few bites out of the Silversides maybe one or 2 times but other than that he doesn't pay attention to anything.

I also bought some catfish fillet while I grabbed the shrimp and I was going to try to feed him that later on tonight. It was also suggested by my coworker/boss (I work at a pet store) to try out some nightcrawlers as well as chicken liver.

I was just wanting to gather some more information from you all on other options that I have that I could try feeding?

No, prawns and shrimp are pretty much the same thing. Do try the nightcrawlers. I can't believe he's not taking the filets. Squid is another good bet -- it's really, really stinky, and my SA RTC loves it.

Well I planned to try the fillet tonight and I'm crossing my fingers that he'll show some interest in that.

Thanks for the input about the squid as well!

Do you have any pictures? At what size did you get him? You can also try pellets, Most of my catfish loved them. Also what kind of beefheart? Are you getting stuff from the grocery store? Or the frozen beefheart cubes from the pet store? I know he is kinda big for those but my cats always loved those. I always gave it as a treat. Also frozen bloodworms, or tilapia fillets. And like someone already said squid. Also if you just got him recently he might not be that hungry yet.

No pictures yet but I'll try to get some tomorrow for you all.

I took him from the store when he was around 4 inches. The beef heart is the frozen kind from the pet store...the gum drop stuff. Read about the tilapia fillets as well as a possible food source so was gonna try to grab some of those if the catfish fillets don't work out.

I picked him up about 1 month ago so I would think that he has had plenty of time to adjust right? Or do they need a longer time?

Alright, just tried out a piece of the catfish fillet and no luck with that. Gonna leave a piece in there overnight and see what happens to it.

If it's gone I won't be 100% sure if he ate it considering the oscars are in the tank as well but they didn't show any interest in the fillet either so I'll report back with my findings in the morning.

I have an Asian Redtail Cat. Did you just get yours? When I first got mine, it did not eat for about a month then it started to eat stuff. Mine can eat anything now. It might want to be comfortable with its environment before it starts eating.

Anyway, I have mine by itself. Watch your other fishes because this is a very agressive fish.
