So after my son impulse bought this little guy a few months ago, I was reading up and am wondering what everyone's experience has been with them. It started as a 2 inch cutie and is now around 6 inches in length sharing the tank with a giraffe cat, 2 Oscar's, and an aro. How big has everyone gotten them? How nasty are they really? And how big have they gotten? I'm getting conflicting information as to final size. Some say 18", some say 30"+. Doesn't matter size wise. I have the ability to house it in the pond. Temperament is the issue. Currently the boss is a 3 foot hybrid who is not the nicest but pretty much leaves the rtc alone.

Ime with this specie they tend to be highly aggressive catfish especially towards other catfish. Mine would rip out chunks out of the other catfish in the tank. As for max length I've seen them hover around 3ft for most. So just a bit shorter then a Amazon red tail but still no slouch in size either. Personally I would recommend rehoming the cat unless ya want to dedicate a tank to just 1 fish in the end. Now don't get me wrong, these catfish are beautiful fish, but their aggression level is what puts me off from getting another one.

Check out the attached for my experiences.

I have never found them to be even half as bad as reports, however most hemibagrus have attitude in abundance and can turn from angel to devil on the flick of a switch.
If you have a pond, then all the better as just like their cousins the Wyckii, the Wyckiodes play nicer in bigger accommodation and will reach around 36” with Wyckii reaching 26-28”.
Still on the lookout for a couple more as still one of my favourite fish. Certainly favourite genus are hemibagrus of all kinds as these IMO typify what is a true and “proper” catfish.
