perfectly fine yesterday when I put it in the tank. does this look like actions caused by the Asian RTC?

I would bet money that the artc played a big part in the damage to your aro. I have had artc in the past and they brutally attacked tank mates when lights went out.

The aro looks like it was beat up. I bet the artc was on it as soon as lights went out. If your worried about water, test it and post parameters.
