sorry , just want to ask, I just build a pond on the mountain, with no filter at all, just a slow running water, the water just out from the wall of the pond from the earth, heres the pic , still not finished. Can i put rays in the pond??
the pond in its self is a really smart idea for rays. however it has been my experience that slow moving wat with no filtration=dead fish....wat i would do is get my self an inexpensive pool filter and fill it with bio media as rays r pretty sensitive to ammonia....last thing u want is to buy expensive rays that live for a month and die right....however i dunno maybe it could work with no filtration but im kind of a worry wart. in any case congrats on the pond! looks like its gonna be nice keep pics coming as it progresses pls!
You would need a reliable decent flow of new water which is clean and suitable.
I assume you do not have power close by and therefore cannot run a filter...if you have power then drop in a pond pump and supply a filter, there is no excuse.
You will need to find a way to aerate the water in hot times as rays need this.
I think you will often not see them as they will be in the mulm at the bottom. They also need good quality decent food daily with a mixed diet.
You could add in a vegetable filter as a type of non powered filter but you must make sure you can aerate as the filter will consume oxygen at night.
where are you located? Rays cannot live in a cold water pond. Please bear that in mind. I think it has to be indoor pond and temperature controled. You said you are making a pond in the mountain.
I am a newb on ray but I own plecos who are native to the amazon just like rays and I know for sure the plecs don't like cold water.
