Is it me or are some people asking the wrong questions when it comes to getting new fish ?
I always see threads with the title " will a so-so fish fit in a soso gallon tank for the rest of its life ?" And when i open the thread, there is absolutely no question on what it eats, what kind of water is best, tankmates and the like. Seems to me that making the fish fit into whatever fish tank is available is of paramount concern and nothing else.

And the irony of the whole thing is that the person asking the question will never keep the said fish for the rest of its life. In all probability not even half the life expectancy of whatever fish it is.

I am not against anybody and im not even saying that i get this a lot in MFK.. in fact
every fish board that i have been a member of gets questions like this on a regular basis.

and i might add that i shudder at the word "fit"

*shudder*

maybe we should start a sticky thread of questions and answers to consider when getting a new fish?

Exactly. And there seems to be a lot of people obssesed with maximum size !
A good example would be stingray keepers. Everybody started with smallish tanks , then
eventually a big number of them moved to ponds.

I was once guilty of the same thing, but thanks to MFK I have changed my views.
We should all just remember to do our best to share the love and EDUCATE:)

lets not be haters remember when you was new to the hobby
how many fish did you have in your first tank and how often did you do water changes and cleaned the filter and tank
without our help how are new people going to learn the joy of keeping fish
mike

im actually not hating but trying to challenge the view and accepted norms of
fish boards.

If you have read some of my posts, you will know the kind of atrocious husbandry
i committed to my fish when i was young. :)
