i dont kno as much as i would like to about africans so i dont kno what normally is in these tanks wondering if any one else does... i mean i kno yello labs and stuff like that

i duno what im trying to say lol

I don't have an answer to your question but i'm assuming you're trying to ask what breeds of cichlids are usually thrown in with the 'assorted african cichlid' tanks at the pet stores

yah not that i really care... but from what ive ben seeing its a wider varity of africans then i would think i duno its just strange to me... y not sell them as difernt fish

Hi, I have a few tanks and keep african cichlids from Malawi and Tanganika, from my experience these "mixed malawis" or the like are when they only have 1 or 2 of each so its not worth displaying a tank with each in, maybe someone has brought some back to the shop or something.. you can sometimes get bargains in these if you know what your looking for..

From what I know from speaking to my lfs it is because so many african cichlids are mutts that no one species can be identified hence "Assorted African Cichlids", it is partly the fault of poorly run suppliers but also the store for not being more choosy their supplier.
The better lfs' will label their africans by species as they are careful about their suppliers.

i mean even walmart has "assorted african" tanks... and ive seen everything in them from yello labs to what im pretty sure was a small borleyi... just thought it was strange i gess

Most of them are hybrid africans. People have displays of different types of africans and don't know what to do with the hybrid fry. So they give them to the LFS. The LFS makes a killing off them.
