Is it uncommon to find rare and expensive cichlids in the assorted cichlid tanks at different pet stores. Today i went to one and bought one and i have no idea what he is. I am going to post a pick of him in just a minute. But is it uncommon to find them.

Not rare or expensive, but i got a dimidochromis kiwinge from an assorted cichlid tank a few years ago...not a common fish at lfs.

It all depends if you know your fish t the size my LFS has assorted cichlids for SA and CA they r too small to tell so it's hit or miss

I've been to some random LFS that aren't exactly knowledgeable when it comes to CA/SA cichlids and have found some surprises mixed in their tanks. I can't say that I have ever found anything "rare" but I have found a few fish that are uncommon to most stores in this area. This happens a lot with juvenile fish. Unless a person knows what they are looking for, many juvenile cichlids can look the same. I have spotted several mislabeled fish this way. That's the great thing about reading and learning more and more about cichlids. You'll have the eye to spot the gems hidden in assorted cichlid tanks.

I know thats how i found my red texas cichlid they had put him in the tank with the bolivian ram cichlids and i snatched him out pretty quick i knew was and that was the one fish i had been looking for for a long time.
Kind of looks like Biotodoma Cupido. Cupid Cichlid. I could be wrong though. Very cute either way!
