I picked up these 2 pretty cheap from a mixed haps tank at a local store, and wanted to see if anybody here could help me figure out what they are, or whether they are hybrids etc.

Hey, you're here too! lol
Hard to say whether the Hemi's male or female but they are good looking males.
The second, I know someone mentioned it looked like a Dimidiochromis sp., and I do have to agree, just not positive of which.

Thanks for the help, it was suggested on cichlidforum that the second one might be Dimidiochromis kiwinge.

If it is a D. kiwinge, at what size would I expect it to start coloring up, if it is a male?

If male, should start coloring around 4-6". No accounting for late bloomers though. As mentioned they are a large-growing fish and you'll need plenty of room for a large open water hap.
Very nice find on both.

I would otherwise vent them, but i'm no good at it. either way, it would be out of curiousity, because I'm not going to be breeding them, just hoping for some colors I suppose. Either way, just trying to get some fish to grow out for a near future hap tank

If male both would make very nice additions. I loved my Hamitilapia. I have one female left of my old trio and she spawned for me only once the whole time I had them but I'd very much like to keep a breeding group again.

If you're going for color wouldn't you want to breed them? The males are always more colorful when they're showing off.

Not by that much IMO.
Breeding males are also insanely territorial and often downright belligerent.
