Can't seem to find much info on Astatheros Alfari. I've searched Google before some start posting links to it.
The fact they used to be classified under Amphilophus makes me wonder about possible aggression issues. Tankmates will be a very calm female midas, clown loaches, bristlenose plecos, filament barbs and pim. pictus. Tank will be a 5x2x2 with sump.
Anyway here are my questions:

Are they generally aggressive?
If so, similar to what in terms of aggression?
Are they conspecific aggressive?
How large do they get in aquariums?
Can they live in un-mated pairs, ie 2 males/females, without issues?
Can they live in larger groups, ie 4+, without issues?

I warn you that my experience may not be the same as yours will be, as i only have 1, and no other to compare.

They are not aggressive at all, but sure flare and chase other fish like most sa/ca cichlids.

Passive Geophagus species would describe him perfectly.

Conspesific? Dont really know what that means, if you mean individuals of the same species showing aggression against each other i really dont know, as i only have 1, but i guess not much.

Mine has been stuck around 8" for the 8 months or so i have had it. So i guess 8-12", i think mine is a female so males should get a bit larger.

That should be possible, but during breeding they should like all other cichlids get more aggressive.

I think they could live in groups, i pretty much compare them to tapajos geos.

Finally i want to congradulate you on getting this species, where are you getting them from?
My Alfari is the most fun fish i have ever kept, i have kept pretty much every fish out there for the past 7 years. Great personality and colours like i have never seen before.
Be sure to post pics once you get them.

Should PM Jakob. He has one :)
Im glad im known here for something..

thanks for the info you were able to provide for me Jakob, I knew you only had one so the multiple alfari questions were out.
i dont have them as yet, i am looking at alfari as a potential candidate for my new 5x2x2. I am making a list, I do have some definites but the only definite cichlid at the moment is my midas.
However, pics will be promptly posted. from bag to tank all new additions will be snapped. I will be attempting an ordr from a local place that says they can get wierd and wonderful species no problem. im going to be putting them to the test.
im heading the peaceful route because when I add more aggressive fish to the tank my midas goes shy and reclusive. so its a peaceful tank for me, even with a 9.5" midas. kind of wierd.

I will post some pics of mine in the media lounge in a couple of minutes to encourage you. You should get them.
