I have five managuense I have been growing out for a bit. They are between 3 and 5 inches now. At what size should they start pairing off if they will? I think I have 3 males and 2 females. They are currently in a 125g and playing pretty well with each other. They have been together since they were a little under an inch. thanks

I had my 1st group pair off at about 8" for the male and 5" for the female, then the 2nd "pair" never really paired off so I sold them.

The pair I currently have , the male is 9"+ and the female is about 6.5"-7" and they still haven't decided to spawn, BUT, they are alwayyyyyys together and no aggression at all to one another so it HAS to be a pair because 2 male Jags will fight until one is dead.

Thanks. Really want a bonded pair. Honestly if they never spawned I would be happy.

it would be nice, a breeding pair of Jags CAN be nasty to everything but they don't HAVE to be. I had my OG pair in a 5', 120g w/ a harem of JDs, a few female FHs, 2 FMs, a few female Convicts and a bunch of big-ass catfish and Plecos and the Jags never bothered anything as long they stayed away from their nesting site.

i believe i have 3 males and 2 females. Would it help at all if I removed two males and just made it one male to two females?

not really, until you get a pair. They are still tricky to sex at that size anyway, we were unsure of mine until the male was 8-9" - I would not remove any of them unless they start fighting and I don't mean "a little scuffle" either. They will struggle for dominance but won't likely cause much damage unless left ignored for a while. If you start seeing torn fins, relax but keep observing closely - but missing scales, time to move some fish around.
