On the Rio Araguaia, I wish...
Do you think there would be any problems with keeping a 7" atabapo pike with a 10" tapajos red pike in a 240 gallon tank? The other inhabitants are 3 peacock bass (monos), 1 TSN, and 1 Lima Shovelnose and I'm planning on adding 2 peacock bass (temensis), 3 flagtail prochilodus, and either 1 planiceps or 1 tigrinus. Thanks ~Trent

Just from my minor experience with Pikes, I have to say no, but it may be possible, as long as there are enough hidy holes. Odds are, the 10" is gonna beat the p*ss out of the 7". I would pick one, or get 5 and hope for a mated pair to be produced out of the bunch. Keeping in mind they might need a new home in the future, but with that size of tank, you might actually get them to breed. :)

I am finally a predator, no longer food.

Yeah I know the cats are going to be a prob eventually, but right now the size difference is to big to have to worry about them. I will be moving the cats to a new home when the time comes ~Trent

Hope the cats are at least 5"...cuz any smaller than that and its possible they will become food. I would be worried about the pbass as well, as they have a crazy fast growth rate, and can get large enough to eat some pikes.

About the pikes you want, i wouldn't do it unless you were adding more than one pike. Because adding just one to a tank that already has an established 10" pike is basically settin the new pike up for a serious beating. When I got my strigata a while back, I introduced them TOGETHER to a new tank, they had never been kept together. The female was about 12" the male was about 10". The minute they saw each other it was game on. It good so bad I had to seperate them with a divider for a few days. Point in case, you will have aggression if you try adding ANY pikes to that tank that already has your established 10" pike in it. Groups will cut down on the aggression though and help out quite a bit.

The TSN is 11" and the pbass are about 7" the atabapo I have now is about 7" as well so its the same size as the pbass. I was looking at getting a 10" tapajos from sharkaquarium but now im considering getting a similar sized 7-7.5" tapajos from rapps. I was just wondering if it would be a problem with the atabapo I have. The tank is a 240 and I have 2 huge pieces of driftwood for them to hide in/around. So you think I would be better adding 2 tapajos reds instead of just 1 to the tank? ~Trent

eventually, the TSN is gonna eat them all:(

And like peanut said. Best to add in groups, reduces spcific aggression. Add just one, it is new and does not know the area, gonna be harrassed possibly to death.

Possibly try a large piece of egg crate. But would hate to see you spend that much money on a fish that is gonna get creamed sooner or later.....

I haven't decide yet on if I'm going to get the tapajos red and try it, I"m not worried about the TSN, I know it will outgrow them all quickly and become a problem but I have another place to put him when I'm afraid he could pose a threat. Thanks for all the advice ~Trent

I'd move it now man, don't risk a nice, pricey pike like that. Get that cat outa there and into another tank el pronto. Seriously. As for the atabapo only being in there for a month, it only takes them a few minutes in the tank to set up a territory and defend it...;). They will be aggression, count on it. How bad and for how long, thats anyones guess, but be sure it will make you bite your fingernails for quite some time. Personally I don't like puttin my fish into that type of stress, or myself...haha. Best bet would be to remove the atabapo for a couple of days until you get the tapajos. Then add them to the tank at the same time, after you've rearranged it. That way they will be introduced at the same time. they will probably still fight, but there is a chance.
