Attention to all you ATF keepers, who has kept an African Tiger Fish here for the longest and how big did it get ? If its still alive, whats your secret and if its dead what was the cause of its demise ? Pics too is appreciated.
Due to my military career, the longest I've been able to keep a tank set up is for 2 yrs at this point, but it will be3 at the end of this assingment. The longest I've been able to keep any single ATF has been approx. 20 months. My largest so far is my 17" Goliath ATF. The 3 Vittatuses that are kept with it are 14-15". The secret is to keep them in the largest tank you can provide, with fish that aren't too aggressive (at least when small), no sharp rocks, do not skip out on your regular maintenance (water changes), and provide variety in diet. Avoid feeders for obvious reasons unless you are going to treat them for parasites and/or disease prior to feeding them to your fish. If you must have more than one, make sure to have at least 4, and dithers also help to disperse aggression. Plants do help by providing visual barriers and territories without the danger of hard/sharp obstructions to darting ATFs.
Here are some not so recent shots of my gang.
