4th pic, going strickly on colors, I do not recall my old VATF having a grey tail. The ATF profile has those as TATF I believe. The other 2 have the colors of my boy and the nice dark outline. Maybe colors is a way to ID male and female? I would just assume they are all from the same batch and same collection point.
Right and wrong. There's 2 different species from 2 different sources in there.
(my 2 favorite species) 
Coloration might be able to be used when they are this young, but the fish with the grey tail is getting big enough that it will start coloring up soon. After that the face shape is the dead give away. It's actually pretty evident right now.
I'm guessing the coloration and painfully slow growth is due to a diet consisting mainly of carny sticks.

DB- those 2 with colorful tails will be stunners!
The 2 with colorful tails might end up being stunners, but I don't think they'll be stunning enough for me to reconsider Tanzies as my favorite species. I've got an older one that I can honestly say is the first fish I've considered keeping by itself, the tail is just ridiculously beautiful.
Hard to miss the eels at feeding time...... Some of them actually reside in the floating plant and just sit there snagging pellets as they float by.

Over half those pics have at least one eel in them, one has 3.
It's like a MFK version of where's waldo.
The grey tailed guy in the pics above is one of 2 Tatf that are in with 3 Vatf (the colorful tailed guys). The little Vatf has a less colorful tail, just like the grey tailed Tatf has a less colorful tail then the dominant Tatf in that tank. I definitely don't like the idea of a pair of any kind of ATF so the 2 Tanzies (started with 5 -1 in shipping, wolf killed 2) were dumped in with the trio of Vatf, and surprisingly it seems to be working ok thus far..... (knock on wood) lol
