Has anyone had any experiences keeping these two together? Would they get along?
I was thinking of setting up a tank like this.
Thanks in advance :D

Never have but I am curious, where did you find bathybates?

Hi Guppy, Well Im not a big cichlid fan anymore but the ACA Convention is in chicago this year , and I'm thinking of going to the closing auction to try and find some.

Seems like it would be a cool predator tank.

are the water parameters same? I though bathybates are lake fish while atd are river fish? (high Ph and hard vs. nuetral) ??

I also like the bathybates, look cool, and I was thinking same thing as you, but not sure about whether the thrive under same water conditions as ATF

R1 what happened exactly? Was he in there long enough for the ATFs to get used to him? or was it getting brutal?

They started to nip at him. It wasn't brutal to a point that they were slashing him. I just did not want to take the risk after loosing a smaller one. I may try again at some point. Maybe if I find more that's about 12". Then maybe by having a school the the attention will not be focused on one. It's funny because I have 3 Tarpons in w/my ATF's. 2 were orginally there since my ATF's were like 3 or inches. They somewhat grew up togheter. The 3rd I introduced about a month ago. They pick on this guy alot. ....meaning fin nips. The other two they leave alone ? pretty interesting behavior. At one point I even removed 2 of my Tarpons (10+") and my ATF's went nutts ???? I've never seen them so skittish in my tank. It's like as they were lost. Soon as I put the Tarpons back they were mellow again. It's like by having such an active and dominate fish swimming in with the ATF it took up most of their attention focusing on the shiny silver thing swimming with them.....pretty interesting...
