Atfs showing no color??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First thought, could be stress or diet related. What are you feeding them currently? and whats their tank conditions like?

Probably the substrate and background. With a darker background/substrate it will darken their colours. Is your tank painted?

They eat massivore and black worms
I have a light sand substrate

Its the light substrate. Put them over black gravel or sand and the color will come right back. Most fish, to include ATF, will show faded colors over a light substrate. As they get larger the colors will become prominent enough to be visible even over a light substrate, but they will always be more pronounced over a dark one.

Don't worry, younger fish have less color and are more apt to try and hide, thus they try and blend in with their surroundings ..... as they get larger, their color really comes out .... I have virtually white sand in my tank and I think my ATF's have great color, at least for an ATF, so give it time
