ATI Bulbs

Wondering if the ATI Blue plus bulbs are better to use for a mixed reef tank instead of the ATI True Actinic 03 bulbs.

I plan on getting the Sunlight Supply Tek Light for my 120g reef tank.
It's an 8x80w light so i was thinking 4 12000k bulbs with 3 true blues and a fiji purple

where's the daylight mytee? the ati blue + dont substitute for the daylights they would be replacing true actinics.

im thinking 4 daylight 2 blue plus 1 true actinic and 1 fiji purp

or just 3 blue plus and forget the true actinic

E-mail Todd cherry of Cherrycorals.com and ask him his bulb combo over his prop tanks..
he runs all blues and fiji purple.. NO DAYLIGHT bulbs..

Well what about dawn/dusk? Turning off the daylights and just running the actinics an hour before/after daylights? Does that even matter or i could just ran the actinics for the hours i have the lights on. The light fixture I'm getting has 2 switches each controlling 4 bulbs.

If it still doesn't matter then just:

True | Blue+ | True | Blue+ | Fiji Purple | True | Blue+ | True

If I'm going with that setup ^^^^ will i be able to keep a mixed variety of corals including SPS/LPS/Softies and clams ?

I spoke with The Grim Reaper on Reef Central who is the resident T5 expert.

He suggested i go with 2 ATI Purple plus lamps 2 Blue plus and 4 Aquablues

Sorry that's 2 aquablues and 4 blue plus.

i thought you needed more of the daylights bulbs though for proper growth?

the aquablues are the daylights the blue plus are:

"The ATI Blue Plus T5 HO fluorescent bulb combines the properties of a blue bulb with a True Actinic Blue 03 bulb. This combination produces a unique spectrum that encourages bluing in SPS corals and fluorescence in capable corals. It will also help balance out a washed out or yellow hued tank. The ATI Blue Plus works well as a supplement to metal halides or in combination with a 6500K ATI Sun Pro or an ATI AquaBlue Special."

I wish someone local to me was selling the fiji bulbs, but no one does. But...I have been using Geisemann powerchrome bulbs and I love them.

Mytee, are your growth rates impacted at all by a lack of daylight spectrum bulbs? I know growth rates can be relative since a tanks water conditions have something to do with it, but was just curious if you would know.

the blue + is a 14-15k bulb not blue at all really.. (I think) I cant clearly remember.. but I know one of those is really a yellow/white bulb not blue.

so do you think 2 ATI purple plus, 2 aquablues and 4 blue plus is a good setup? and what should i have coming on first, the 4 or the 2 and 2? im thinking the 4?
