Own one. Amazing fish.

They love to burrow and ambush fish. Mines about 7 inches or so and loves guppies.

Very peaceful. Never seen it nip or give any fish beyond feeders issue. They're actually almost too chill, they're not terribly lazy activity wise but I've seen snails crawl over them before, lol.

Quite personable and intelligent too. Will greedily eat from your fingers if you're holding a bloodworm cube. Will bite on and then thrash about.

Escape artists however. Be careful.

There's a very similar fish in SE Asia, yes?
We had an about 14-16" one of these (either the SA or Asian version) in the '90s -they were all over the Vancouver area shops for a couple of months, and I've not seen them again ('cept for market in Phnom Penh).
The thing was ferocious. Out and about reasonably often and killed and ate anything that wasn't looking for it, including a 6" red snakehead. We found the head in the morning....
Very bright, very interesting. Very cool to watch it hunt tetras.
