Had anyone care for an Atlantic Freshwater Stingray ? I would like more information and experience about them and they are probably the only type of ray that I can ever hope to acquire.

The rays in the pet trade will die if kept in fresh. There are several threads in this section and the SW shark/ray section discussing why.

Short version, stores try to sell them as FW to make a sale. It will die.

zoodiver is right well, mostly.. the atlantic rays collected by most wholesalers were not collected from freshwater but, from salt and acclimated thus causing the problem. atlantic or florida rays can and do live their whole lives in the st. john's river system even breeding there.. So if collected from there they can and do live successfully in captivity. i've only seen one store located in longwood,FL who collected pups from lake jessup and the st. john's river and had them avail. for purchase. He only gets afew and they are seasonal..

you're also forgetting that they have a VAST volume of water to dilute their urea in. a small tank in a house is nowhere near the same water volume, thus their massive urea output causes them to be poisoned by their own emissions. even with constant water changes, they will eventually succumb, unless you're placing them in a multi-thousand gallon system.

I agree. I have personally seem them while snorkeling at Juniper Springs. Just make sure they are the ones caught in pure FW but that's an unlikely situation like Zoo said.
