I just got one from nick , arrived in great condition and still in great condition as of now on the second day... its eatin market shrimp already.:D

ive done quite a lot of research (includin on tis website, although it took me a while, since typing in "atlantic stingray" doesnt rilly give u only bout atlantic ray stuff ) b4 buyin, i know they produce lotsa urine, and ive realized ive read "Lotsa filtration" is required, all the time, and now i realized that i dont rilly know wat that means.....:(

so i was wondering if my 300 gph ocean clear cartridge filter and a 1000gph wet/dry( filled wit pot scrubbies n carbon n crushed coral and nitrate remover) and a 36 watt UV enough for a 180 to keep my 5-6" lil atlantic ray :) or would adding something like a denitrator help since the ray's urine is pretty much nitrate/ ammonia n stuff o.O

and then, i heard peeps do weekly or even daily water change? is that rite? and how many %? o.O

any more info would be helpful :)

thankies

Sounds like your on the right track..

Get a test kit. Test daily for Ammonia. If Ammonia occurs, then you need more adequate filtration with a higher GPH rate.

Watch your Nitrate accumulation. Base the amount and frequency of water changes on how fast your nitrates accumulate.

50% up to 3x-4x a week might be in order, especially as the ray grows.. adding a heavy dose of aquarium salt will help slow the urea process..

i agree with miles
the key to keeping rays long term and keeping them healthy is water changes

When adding a new ray you should watch your ammonia very closely. They excrete a lot of ammonia and can overload your system is not watched close. If the ray is small you should be fine. Just keep a close eye on it for the next week.

congrats!

pics!?

a weekly 50% change pending on your params should be good... you could get some seachem matrix and leave it submerged in your sump for some extra bio as well...
