I use a wireless transmitter to fire my 430 ex flash that I am hand holding for this pic-It makes for some creative angles and shadows obviously....Doing this creates a black background like seen in this pic-

It has been touched up in photoshop also-But not the background-

Interesting... I get the whole shadow concept but not the black background effect. Do you have a room that has minimal light? I might try this with the commander mode with my SB-800.

It is fairly dim in the room that I do my dog shots in-But I have also done them in different spots with same results.

Even my fish shots in high light tanks turn out like this....It just does it for me-

Sorry I can't elaborate much man-I'm a beginner that hardly knows much about photography......Let alone all the correct terminology

Just give it a try-You got a wireless transmitter for your flash? if so-All this should come really easy for you once you get started with it...

Low ISO, Small aperture, and fast shutter will give you this when you hold the flash above the subject.
