So I've upgraded my tank and I need to swap out the hoses on my canister filter for longer ones(new tank is 9in taller). It took me forever to work the intakes into the hoses when I was assembling the filter. Is there any easy way to do this? Do I need some kind of lube(I feel really weird asking this)?

Maybe a little hot water will help. Try soaking the new hose in steaming hot water for a few minutes to soften it up. Just turning your sink on full blast hot and running it over the ends of the hose should work as well.

+1

I usually nuke a cup of water in the microwave then dip the end of the hose in the cup a few times. Works every time ;-)

best way to do it. I put about a cup of water in the microwave for 45 seconds and held the hose in there for about the same.

Looks like hot water seems to be the #1 trick. I read somewhere vaseline would work but I'm not sure if it is fish safe.
