Hello All...
Ok Where too start? A friend just got me hooked on the idea of setting up a reef tank seeing i have 1000 FW's, As im very serious with fishkeeping i would like to have the best setup as possible as i could afford.
As i really dont have 1000's to play with im only going to set up a 4x2x2 Marine Reef, With that i would like to cut out an overflow for a 4x1x1 underneath it. I have been looking into a refugium and really don't see how it could improve anything. In my sump id like to have an imsump skimmer of some kind, plenty of live rock, some medias possibly and coarse and fine sponges, I really dun understand what PhosBan reactors do but all setups i have seen have them so i might just include a few, GFO, and GAC not sure but if you put calcium media in a PhosBan 150 would it serve the purpose as a calcium reactor? or is a calcium reactor different?
I will have 10-20kg of live rock straight up and possible get more if needed.
Am trying to get a wicked lighting setup really dont care on the price for that its just something that is very needed for corals.

To wrap things up id love to hear any information to setting up this Tank Anything is helpful.

Should or Shouldnt add?

Sump
Sump/Refugium
RO Unit 2x PhosBan 150 GFO and GAC. Another needed?
Type of Lighting

Any Info is Excellent I just wanna have a Safe Healthy Tank for my inhabitants :D

Thankyou
Brad

<< refugiums can be a huge benfit to a marine aquarium and i would always suggest having one if its possible. Refgiums are a place to cultivate food ( copepods ) for tank inhabitants and provide an place for nutrient export via various macro algae's ) >>

In my sump id like to have an imsump skimmer of some kind

<< A 1 foot wide, 1 foot tall footprint is not that big for a decent in sump skimmer. Have a scan over these, and pay attention too their pysical sizes http://www.marinedepot.com/protein_skimmers__index-ap.html ) >>

, plenty of live rock

<< You'll be needing roughly 60kg of live rock for this tank >>

, some medias possibly and coarse and fine sponges,

<< Personaly, with good live rock filtration and a good skimmer, adding sponges the sump is not needed >>

I really dun understand what PhosBan reactors do but all setups i have seen have them so i might just include a few, GFO, and GAC not sure but if you put calcium media in a PhosBan 150 would it serve the purpose as a calcium reactor? or is a calcium reactor different?

<< Unless your adding lots of hard corals, i dont see a need too worry about reactors..Get yourself used to running a standard marine aquarium before you start moving in that direction...keep it slow >>

I will have 10-20kg of live rock straight up and possible get more if needed.

<< As above, about 60kg of live rock required here >>

Am trying to get a wicked lighting setup really dont care on the price for that its just something that is very needed for corals.

<< Metal halide lighting system is about the best...a 2 lamp fixture with lamps of 250w will cover the full tank length and provide plenty of light. >>

Should or Shouldnt add?

Sump << Should Add >>
Sump/Refugium << Should Add >>
RO Unit 2x PhosBan 150 GFO and GAC. Another needed? << Should not Add Yet >>
Type of Lighting << See above, ref metal halides >>

Any Info is Excellent I just wanna have a Safe Healthy Tank for my inhabitants :D

Thankyou
