Hello ray breeders. i would like to hear from all breeders, what i wanna know is what ray species you breed or have breed? And when did they mature? I wanna put together some info on ray maturity. I here this ? asked alot and I my self is planning on breeding so I think it would be nice to have some info on this all together. I know there is some ? on maturity age on some rays, some may say longer and some say less.

Please Give.
1. Species
2. Male or Female
3. Age (once mature.)
4. Size (once mature.)
5. (optional)Any further information you think will help with maturity. maybe u feed a special diet. or anything you think may have help speed up or hinder your rays maturity age.

guess no one breeds any more lol

I believe that most rays mature around 2-3 years old.
Size depends on the individual..
For instance my male motoro bred at 9.5" and my female At 10". Some are not mature at this size.

no one else huh. so much for trying to put some info together lol. thanks u 2 for the info. ill just do some research online an head over to the international forums.

My jaguar pair has breed twice and both are just over 3 years old. Male matured at 12 inches and rapidly developed when put with the female who was 14 inches at the time. Not an expert but from what I saw personally and have heard, rays mature faster when they are paired with potential mates. Atleast for males anyways, no real way to tell if the female is mature

Well Russell I think you know all of my info but I will post it here for all.....

1. Species I only have reticulatas
2. Male or Female Male matured around 9 inches Female was closer to 11-12
3. Age (once mature.) Both were right at the 3 year mark
5. I think something that really sped up the maturity rate on my rays was bumping them from a 125 to a 500+ gallon tank. Religious water changes always with cold water and Prime. And I never feed a boring diet variety is the spice of life :) Not sure how much of that really aided in their maturing faster or not but it's what I did.

P.S. How is my baby girl doing?

We have Motoros....2 of our breeders we raised from pups, the female was a little bit shy of 2 years old and about 11"-12" when she had her first litter. We believe that the male that fathered those pups was a mature male (breeder) we purchased around that time. Our male was about the same size, and had big claspers, but we didn't see any signs of breeding till the new male got on scene. Our other breeding female we purchased as an adult...hard to say if she was mature at the time, she was older than our female though and bigger. She delivered about 120 days after we brought her home so pretty sure she was mature. ;) We have a WC female that we bought sometime ago and added her to the pond. From what we were told she was older than our other 2 females (probably around 4 years old, but smaller), but the males have shown no interest in her at all and she has been in there for probably 8 months or so. We believe our success is contributed to the 400 gallon pond they call home, a lot of current, variety and quality of food and good filtration. Hope this helps.

Betters Jeffers?? LOL
