hi, i had my blue acara added in my 40 gal tank for 3 months then all of a sudden, i found him floating at the top, upside down, no tail, all fins rip to sh*t and an eye missing..    i put him in my quarantine tank, ( i was really considering to end his life)
treated him with melafix for a week, his tail has started to grow back and so has his finnage his eye socket has healed. the blue acara is 3"

i was wondering, what could of attacked and done this to him? keeping in mind he was boss of the tank, he kept all the other fish in check he is a vicious little buggar, he even attacked the gravel cleaner

heres the list of what ive got in there:

salvini male 4"
salvini female 3"
black ghost knife 4"
lima shovelnose 6"
blue loach 4"

keeping in mind that the salvinis dont breed, there not a pair though they are tolerant of each other

if you think you could help that would be great :)

The shovelnose, take out the shovelnose catfish and sell it to the pet store if you want all your other fish to live.
shovelnose get past 15" and will eat any fish they can+ 40 gallon to small for a ghost and shovel

Even thos the ghost will eat other fish, just to small to do that much damage to a blue acara

i would have to disagree with the shovelnose being the culprit....i would say the salvini's are the problem....even if they are not a 'pair' i would still bet money on them attacking your fish.

I have to agree with the Salvini's, they sure can be nasty if they want to. Maybe they just got sick of being ruled upon and took the chance to fight back.

My bet is the salvinis but you will start losing fish to that shovelnose pretty soon

Miss Scarlett in the dining room with the candlestick.

hmmm probably the shovelnose, yeah it was the shovelnose...
