I have yet another problem for the lounge to possibly help me with.....
I have a 99 honda accord EX with a v-tec engine. the car has been running hot when it is idling and I have noticed that neither of the 2 fans by the radiator are spinning, even when the AC is turned on. I have eyeballed the fuse for the cooling fan relay and this is fine. I also unplugged the wire for the fan sensor and still, the fan didn't spin. any ideas? thanks !

do the fans run off their own temp sensor?- you can always test the fans by doing a quick direct jump from the battery to the fans (quick jump won't damage them- just proves they work). get 2 jumper wires and connect the power in to the fans to battery + and the black ground out just touch to battery -. I have done this to check fans in the shop to see if the temp sensor was bad or the fans. Also works great for power windows with a bad switch.

its 2 seperate motors, so i would be surprised if the fans are both bad. i will have to try this out. should i use regular jumper cable and just attach some thin copper to the ends? i dont have the cables you're talking about that are a bit thinner.

Just use some wire- strip the ends and attach inside the connector to the fan. I think you have a bad temp sensor if the fans run off of one. One of the best things you can do is pick up the Hayes or Chilton manual for it- at least for the wiring diagrams. Have one for all my cars- mostly for the wiring.

i still havent had the chance to test the fans directly like you recommend. i will post what happens when i do

Try spinning the fan real quick after you turn it on, and see if it kicks up. Be careful to pull your hand out quick too..

you think it may have a messed up bearing?

Just a quick easy thing I've done before. Also try checking the motors as stated above. If the fuse is fine, and they are not kicking on, sounds like the motors are bad.

If it's running hot give it some water. the hamster upgrade that comes with the V-tec upgrade gets tired fast because silly rice burning kids like to pipe their fartcan exhaust to much and the hamster gets tired. So just add a new bottle of water and the little guy will do fine.

Be glad you didn't get the stock gerbil those guys get run down fast.

but if both motors went bad, seems i have some serious wiring problems. isn't it very improbably that both motors would be bad within such a short amount of time?
