I see a lot of threads with pictures to help identify Shovelnose species, but I have never seen any regarding Auchenglanis species... is that because we typically only get A. occidentalis in the hobby? Or do we get multiple species all under the name "Giraffe Catfish" much like all the species sold as "Shovelnose Catfish"?Looking on Planet Catfish it appears there are several species that look very similar.

I am just curious because I love Giraffe catfish! I have a Dwarf Giraffe catfish, as well as one sold by Wetspot as "Sp. Bouche" (which I think is the same as this? http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?task=&species_id=2984 ) I think they should be more popular in the giant catfish world, because they *only* get around 30" and they won't eat everything in your tank!

My LFS has a tiny baby Giraffe catfish in and I am curious how to tell what species it is. It looks more spotted than what I thought A. occidentalis would look.
