"Slothful yet purposeful"??? Dang...I should have slammed the lid of the laptop shut when I read that; my wife was peaking over my shoulder and has now commandeered that phrase to describe...well, never mind...:)

How long has the Fire Eel been in there now? I've only had the one but mine was always front and centre, following my every movement, out in open water. When I moved away it went to live with a couple of conspecifics in another fellow's tank, and all of them behaved like that. Maybe yours just hasn't completely settled in yet?

But, wow...that Lungfish! I love it! :)
The fire eel has been in there about a month now. It does come out and cruise around at times, which is how I know it hasn’t really deconditioned at all. It get super jazzed when I put fluval bug bites in but doesn’t know what they are as they drift over its face 😝 It will still pick up a whole silverside bit after munching it for a bit spits it out and leaves it. It’s gone later but I don’t know if the fire eel or the lungfish ultimately is the one that eats it.

The rocks holding the wood in place have created a cavern at the very back of the tank, which makes it difficult to see the eel a lot of the time. I may actually try removing some of the rocks once the wood is fully waterlogged. There are some hot holes at each end of the tank that the eel sometimes sits in, but he definitely prefers to be at the very back at the moment.

The AUL is very cool. It will often swim around the mid water column and then occasionally goes up to take a breath from the surface as well. It’s very cool. 😎

Mine never ate silversides or any other fish, but any kind of worms were irresistible to it; everything from magnum-sized nightcrawlers right down to frozen or live bloodworms. Yes...I actually collected live bloodworms once in awhile for it...

It also loved frozen krill; I'd suggest trying those and also baitshop nightcrawlers, or even collecting your own on rainy summer nights if your area is good for that. If I had to pick a single live food that is guaranteed to be eagerly accepted by virtually any species of fish...nightcrawlers is the one. :)

Thx jjohnwm jjohnwm appreciate the input mate.

I have dropped a few live worms back by his cave. It did appear interested for sure, but with the geo’s and bala sharks patrolling ravenously, some of the worms didn’t even hit the bottom. I will persevere 😅

Where does one look for live blood worms?
