Lol, Craig Latta is a self proclaimed researcher. In truth, he captures adult Mary River Turtles from the Mary River and puts them into a pond in his backyard where he breeds and later releases hatchlings with no regard to genetic effects or the introduction of foreign pathogens into the wild population. He also lets people "sponsor" turtles for $3,000. He refuses to share with researchers and conservation organizations, and the government where he takes the animals from because they have become a largee part of his livelihood through sponsors. He has no publications, has worked as a consultant with laughable methods and questionable results and is by and large shunned by the scientific community for all of this.
That was however a beautiful video. I haven't had the fortune of being on the Mary while it was so clear yet. We've seen lungfish there the size of a grown man though. Amazing animals.
