I recently purchased these Clown Ruby’s which at first blush appeared to be another color variant of the ruby red peacocks, but on closer examination they appear to have some characteristic marking of Victorian Cichlids. Note the black diagonal line through the eye and the black pectoral fins.

Could it be a hybrid? Possibly Ruby Red x Hap ‘All Red’ or other Victorian Hap?

Definitely hybrids. The store that I visit has these alot, usually with different names. Who knows what it's mixed with, there's some aulonocara. There could be hap or Victorian mixed in. He looks nice though.

I was also thinking Red Empress, since some of them also have that diagonal line.

Yes, hybrid, like most of the 'new' fish coming out of Malawi (via Taiwan, China, and Florida farms) over the past 20 years.

It's the new world cichild. Build your own fish.
Like every American Buffalo, is actually about 5 % European cattle.
Things change like the mag swiper on my debit card.
