Has anyone kept the normal Sunshine Peacock (Maleri) with one of the Red strains? Do the fish "see through" the color and consider each other a close rival? Or does the color throw them off and they consider each other normal rivals?

I’ve kept them together with out anymore than the usual chasing they do. My stock was very heavy and it kept any one fish from being singled out

Have you had the Reds with Eureka's too? I could maybe pass on the Maleri - although I think I will try it anyway - but I really want a Rubin Red and a Eureka.

I've been going down the rabbit trail with Aulonocaras lately, doing research, dear lord there are a lot of them

The Maleri and the Rubescens have done well together for me.

I would think the Eureka (being a Jake) would tend to make the stuartgranti types color down. Especially other reds.

I have and there was nothing more than the usual amount of aggression. I’ve only had an issue twice, one was with a sunshine that hated my Taiwan reef and another was with a dragonblood that hated anything orange. I’ve even broke many rules like mixing lakes and putting mbuna with peacocks. The key I’ve discovered for making it work is way over stocking and minimal decor but a few large rocks that break the line of sight.
Here’s I had with peacocks, haps, mbuna and vics. There’s some that are full grown mature males and some sub adults and some juvies. I had success doing that way I believe because the hierarchy is set. This is the only vid I could find of that tank, but it worked well even when the smaller guys matured. I never had to remove any fish, but I did have to put one in a different tank for few days.
Didn’t mean to get long winded, but yes I think you can do multiple reds, but it’s not guaranteed so just have a back up plan.

I was hoping you would hop on DJ

I have a 20 gallon quarantine/ holding tank now in case I need to pull somebody back out.
There are just a couple shops in town that sell Africans properly. Hopefully they would take fish back if things go sideways.

Also, I think I finally found a pretty good source for fish online here (China). They say that they are selling F1's. And the videos of their stock tanks seem pretty legit. Also, they have fish for sale that are not marked F1, which gives me hope that they are not full of crap/just using a sales gimmick.

Africans are not hugely popular here, but there still seems to be a dedicated community to them
